Ayurvedic HerbsShikakai (Acacia Concinna) is also known as Fruit For The Hair and comes to us from the pristine Himalayan mountains where it's grown in sustainable, certified Organic farms. This herb might take some getting used to but can have excellent results as part of a non "shampoo" wash. Shikakai is excellent for long hair or to help promote beautiful growth and to strengthen hair roots while removing accumulated dandruff when used regularly on your hair and scalp. This herb offers very mild balancing pH that gently cleans the hair. Shikakai is somewhat abrasive, for best results massage gently, do not rub, into hair. The deep penetrating effect will feed your hair and roots. With regular use you'll notice and enjoy the increased bounce, shine and manageability of your hair. You don't want to get this herb into your eyes, it WILL BURN, so be careful or rinse with water. This ancient Indian herb has been used as a natural Rinse and Hair Wash for centuries. Shikakai can be used several ways, this is one way that we use it for ourselves or for animals with coat conditions: Do It Yourself BlendsMix 2 heaping tablespoon or more, depending on hair length, of Shikakai powder with 2 heaping tablespoons of Amalaki powder in about 8oz. of very hot water.Stir the mixture until well blended into a paste, then let sit 15 minutes or until it reaches a comfortable temperature for you. Then thoroughly saturate your hair and apply the Shikakai paste to your hair. Run your fingers gently, do not rub, through your hair and rinse thoroughly at the end of your shower, or give yourself a highly diluted Apple Cider Vinegar rinse, there is nothing like it to restore the natural pH balance to your hair. Even though Shikakai offers excellent cleansing properties, sometimes I'll use a regular all natural shampoo, such as Castile or Goat Milk, or African Black soap bar or one of my favorite natural shampoo bars every few weeks between the weekly Shikakai rinse and wash. Experiment and see what works for you. The Amalaki is conditioning, but a Coconut or other hair oiling treatment really gives great results.
